First Strike Mod for Battlefield 2142 rocks the Star Wars universe!

One of the most common complaints among Star Wars (SW) gamers is the lack of a highly-realistic SW-based game. Even though Lucasarts over the past three years has released some very successful titles such as SW Battlefront, gaming veterans always wanted something more realistic along the lines of the X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter Series and its predecessors -or even- a highly sophisticated First Person Shooter (FPS) like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare.
Things didn’t change with the release of SW Battlefront 2 since the latter balances between arcade and sim genre. Space battles are there but mission depth and complexity are kept to a minimum and the same can be said about ground battles. With games such as Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 dominating the market one of the most repeated questions has to do with Lucasarts willingness and ability to produce something similar.
Fortunately, some very highly skilled and equally motivated gamers decided to take matters into their own hands. First Strike is a Battlefield 2142 mod that converts the successful Electronics Arts title to the Star Wars Universe. Initial videos and screen shots show great promise and seems that once Fist Strike is released it will definitely make Lucasarts’ executives scratch their heads and say; “Why didn’t we think of that”?
The project has been going on since 2005 something that certainly shows the team’s motivation to produce a high-quality product that matches industry’s standards. SW fans will recognize vehicles like B-Wings , A-Wings and Tie Fighters in addition to a series of droids such as R2-D2, C3P0 among others. The mod takes place sometime between Episode IV and VI and has already won the third spot in ModDB’s most anticipated mod awards.
