Just a quick heads up about the following fan art contest by Sony Online Entertainment. Contest submissions close this Monday, so you’ll have to hurry if you want a chance for your painting to be included in the game schematics.

Galactic Call To Arms Fan Art Contest Celebrates Six Years of SWG!

WHAT:

To celebrate the six-year anniversary of Star Wars Galaxies™, Sony Online Entertainment has announced the “Galactic Call to Arms Fan Art” Contest. Fans and budding artists are encouraged to submit their creations — either originals or based off of screen shots — which they feel best depict preparations before a battle within the Galactic Civil War. From gathering forces to training exercises, this is your chance to show off your artistic talents before an entire galaxy!

Winners will get their paintings added as new in-game structure painting schematics available to all players — for a limited time. Submit your image to us and we’ll select the finalists, then present them to the community for a vote. The images with the most votes will be added to the game as new painting schematic.

WHEN/WHERE:

The Galactic Call to Arms Fan Art contest is now underway and continues until Monday, June 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. Pacific time. Winners will be announced during this year’s Fan Faire in Las Vegas, June 25-28, 2009. For further details and complete rules, see the Official Contest Rules.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that First Strike has made it into the Top 100 Mods of 2008 here at ModDB. Now the second stage of the Mod of the Year awards commences, and the voters must narrow the selection down to the top 5.

Old Republic: the “Ultimate Star Wars Game”

Star Wars: The Old Republic is looking very good, as a newly released documentary shows. Check out the in-game footage and listen to some of the philosophy that went into the game’s development. It is the fabled KOTOR successor, to be sure, and a MMORPG in a sense. However, it is taking a little departure from the other run-of-the-mill competitors out there, for better or worse. I can’t wait to test this one out for myself.

Truemors: Force Unleashed on the PC?

Did you feel that? It was a great disturbance in the Force, as if thousands of voices cried out in excitement and were suddenly silenced. Word was circulating — whispers in the dark at first — that Force Unleashed would also manifest itself on the PC. This was even picked up by Ars Technica. But just as the story picked up steam, it was just as quickly debunked. Oh well.

KOTOR 3 Confirmed

Just a quick update: earlier today it was reported that Knights of the Old Republic is indeed under development by BioWare, which was reportedly confirmed by EA chief John Riccitiello.

“We’ve got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development,” said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. “And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about — in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it.”

Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online? “Yes,” he said.

So it appears that yes, the rumors are true. This is very, VERY interesting. If KOTOR is indeed trodding the MMO path, then that says more about the failures of Galaxies than anything else. Has LucasArts given up on Galaxies? After today’s announcement, I’d say yes. The good news is that this new MMO is in the capable hands of BioWare (and out of the hands of Sony).
