“The concept is simple: recreate a vehicle from Star Wars in steampunk style.”

Interestingly enough, a winner has been announced in the classic “Steam-Wars Contest” over at the FBTB (From Bricks to Bothans) forums. You know we here at JediNet can’t resist a story if there’s Star Wars, Legos, and steampunk involved. Congrats to Nabii and RebelRock for winning 1st and 2nd places, respectively. And there were some very nice prizes to be had!

If you’re going to be in the San Francisco area any time in the near future, be sure to check out Star Wars Live on stage at the Dark Room Theater. It shows on Fridays and Saturdays through December 27. What is it? It’s a stage adaptation of A New Hope with a $100 special effects budget. However, it’s a labor of love done by passionate fans of the classic Trilogy. If you’re still not convinced, SF Weekly posted a photo slideshow. Pretty cool.

For more details of the production and credits, check out the links.

Thanks to Tamara for the news!

Youtube, A Cappella, and John Williams

Summary: a video podcast interviews an internet video star about his lip syncing to music by another band who used someone else’s music to make a tribute to someone else’s movie.

I love the internet.

The latest webisode of Amber MacArthur’s commandN featured an interview of Youtube’s Corey Vidal. His list of contributions to the online video community is extensive, but he’s perhaps best known for his lip-syncing to Moosebutter’s a cappella tribute to Star Wars. The music features classic John Williams arrangements and Star Wars themed lyrics.

I could go on, but that pretty much covers it. Here’s the video in question, to officially kickoff the season:

Looking Forward to ‘77

Irony of ironies: “77″ is still an unfinished project, yes, but this film whose trailer won an award in 2006 now has an honest, comprehensive film review. Thanks to Ian, who sent me this heads up:

Those who have spent the last three or four years following the parallel production nightmares of Fanboys and 5-25-77 would be excused for assuming that all films involving teenagers and early cuts of Star Wars films are cursed… you might be right- but 77 is finally here.

At the Spout blog, the whole backstory is given on the production of “77″ and its premise, which definitely seems catchy film material. In summary: “It’s a mess. But it’s kind of a fascinating mess.” Pretty much the finished parts are great and the unfinished parts are a little raw, but has potential. Definitely a good read, so head on over and get your fan film fix.
